Breathing new life into old furniture: A showcase of creativity from our 6th Form Pupils

As part of our Life-skills programme, our talented 6th Form pupils have been busy this week transforming tired, old furniture into vibrant, refreshed pieces full of character and charm. This hands-on project not only nurtures practical skills but also encourages imagination, sustainability, and teamwork.

Here’s a fantastic example of their hard work and creativity.

Beacon Woods

Beacon staff have been working hard to get Beacon woods back up and running to utilise for the children to do their outdoor learning.

Currently 6 classes, specialist classes and intervention groups are happening down the woods where the children can explore outdoor activities and climb, splash and squelch their way around.

EYFS have recently been looking at the book, We're Going on a Bear Hunt and after listening to the story, went on their own bear hunt. They went through the grass, splashed through the "river". stumbled through the forest, twisted through the snowstorm, and found the bear hidden in the cave.

As we move forward, lots more classes will be able to experience the outdoor learning area, experiencing new things as they learn.

 Beach School

Over the last few terms, classes from Zone 1 have been taking part in Beach School.

During their time at the beach, pupils have enjoyed a number of different activities including beachcombing, making art from natural materials, reading maps to find hidden treasure, all whilst also enjoying the sensory exploration of the sand and water.

Barbados class went this term and had discussions around the difference between UK beaches and beaches in Barbados.

 Kent County Showground

On Friday 10th October, 3 students from Botswana class were chosen to represent The Beacon at the Big Mental Health Conversation at Kent County Showground.

It was a full day of seminars and networking with a range of charities and support groups who are focussed on supporting the mental health of young people in Kent.  We also bumped into The Beacon’s own Eva who was doing a wonderful job as an ambassador, and was working at the event all day. She spoke passionately about her role and ensuring that all pupils get their voices heard, which was very inspiring to everyone who attended.
