Zimbabwe Class

Zimbabwe class enjoy DEAR (drop everything and read) time every Tuesday and choose their own preferred way of reading. Some choose Reading Coach, a free Microsoft tool that allows pupils to create their own story at a level appropriate for them. They then read the story aloud and the system gives them an accuracy score. They can even choose the background colour to suit their preferences or dyslexic profile (two of our readers have chosen pink and blue).

Ripplevale Year 5 Visit

An afternoon of fun and friendship

On Wednesday afternoon, we were delighted to welcome Ripplevale’s Year 5 pupils to our sports hall for an action‑packed session of games and activities. The children threw themselves into everything on offer, from curling and tennis to basketball and football skills. One of the biggest hits of the day was Pac‑Man, with plenty of laughter as the teachers joined in the chase.

It was wonderful to see all the children participating so enthusiastically and interacting so positively with one another. Their teamwork, encouragement, and energy created a fantastic atmosphere throughout the afternoon.

After completing all the activities and taking time to cool down, everyone enjoyed a well‑earned drink and snack. Many of the children shared that they had made new friends, which was truly lovely to hear.

Magistrate Visit

At the end of last term, Magistrate Alvin Shaw visited The Beacon to speak with pupils from Year 6, Zone 2 School Council and the Sixth Form. He covered a wide range of topics, including making positive choices, peer pressure, understanding right and wrong, how courts operate, and life in prison. Pupils listened carefully, engaged in thoughtful discussions, and both asked and answered some excellent questions. Well done to everyone involved!

Life Skills

Pupils have been working hard during their Life Skills sessions and have been making great use of our new DT facilities at our Walmer site. The course has covered a range of practical areas, including:

  1. Understanding health and safety when using tools and working in different environments
  2. Identifying tools and learning their correct uses
  3. Installing a shelf securely and ensuring it is level
  4. Repairing minor wall damage
  5. Developing painting techniques using brushes, rollers, masking tape, and careful cutting-in

Eastry Class

Last term in Eastry class we were learning all about our colourful world through celebrations like Red Nose Day, Holi and St Patricks Day. We also got to explore some different instruments during music and most of us had a go on the trumpet, flute and violin.
