Martinique Class

Martinique class has been investigating pollution and the impact this has on the sea in our local community within their Art lessons.  After some initial investigations, pupils created some beautiful mixed media outcomes.

We experimented with a range of media including water colour, acrylic, chalk and mono printing, before going on to make independent artistic choices.

Well done Martinique!

🌍 International Connections at The Beacon 🌍

On Wednesday 13th May, we were delighted to welcome pupils from Ecole Louis Blanc and Collège Paul Langevin in Boulogne as part of our ongoing Geopark partnership.

Our visitors teamed up with our Geoparks Ambassadors and Cuba Class for a scenic walk across the Folkestone Downs, where they explored the area’s rich history and learned about its physical, human and environmental geography — discovering the links between our two regions.

Back at school, pupils enjoyed lunch together before taking part in fun Geopark activities, including identifying local species from both Boulogne and Folkestone and creating a collaborative piece of art. 🎨🌿

It was a fantastic day filled with learning, friendship and shared experiences. We’re excited for many more opportunities to work together in the future! 💙

 Martinique Class

Martinique class has excitedly watched our ladybird pupa transform into adult ladybirds this week. We have been amazed seeing them emerge from the pupae as a white/grey colour and without spots. As their exoskeletons have hardened, we have seen their wings and they have started to turn red. It won't be long and they will be ready to released in the sensory garden.

Port Lympne  and Howletts Visit

We were thrilled to welcome visitors from Port Lympne and Howletts!

They gave us a fascinating glimpse into a day in the life of a zookeeper and ranger, sharing behind-the-scenes insights into working with incredible animals. Our pupils asked thoughtful questions and gained a deeper understanding of animal care and conservation.

We’re also excited to be starting a new partnership with Port Lympne and Howletts, focused on training to better support visitors with SEND. This is a fantastic step towards making days out more inclusive and accessible for everyone.

Thank you for such an inspiring visit — we look forward to continuing our work together!
